Cindy's Story
Patient of Dr. Thomas Stewart

Like many moms, Cindy works hard, enjoys shopping, attends church and spends most of her day on her feet. Like many moms, too, Cindy’s body was left with an uncomfortable but common problem after giving birth to her two wonderful children.

After years of tolerating the need to always have an extra change of clothes or to try very hard not to laugh or sneeze, Cindy decided enough was enough. She turned to Doctors Hospital for help.

As a surgical nurse, Cindy had seen many patients overcome bladder leakage through surgical repair. In April 2009, she decided the time had come to do something.

Together with her physicians, OB/GYN Dr. Thomas Stewart and Urologist Dr. Todd Jarrell, Cindy’s solution was actually two different surgeries: a hysterectomy and a laparoscopic bladder sling. Because her physicians were able to utilize minimally-invasive surgical techniques, Cindy went home a day after surgery and got back to day-to-day life quickly.

Thanks to Columbus Regional Doctors Hospital, Cindy no longer has to hold back her laughter, sneezes or even keep an extra change of clothes handy. Her new-found freedom means she’s changing clothes less often, but she’s still spending lots of time with clothes: shopping, shopping and more shopping.
As the region's leading provider of healthcare, Columbus Regional Healthcare System has touched the lives of most of the children and adults in this region through its comprehensive network of services. Located in the West Georgia city of Columbus, Columbus Regional was established in 1986 as a not-for-profit health services organization, but its roots can be traced back to 1836 when the local hospital was a small wooden building on the banks of the Chattahoochee River.
