Advanced Reconstructive & Trauma Service at Hughston Hospital

Comprehensive Orthopedic Care in Columbus, GA

Hughston Hospital offers the only orthopedist specializing in traumatology in the region. Hughston’s advanced reconstructive trauma service offers patients more treatment options for multiple broken bones in multiple limbs, broken bones that don’t heal correctly or a severe injury.

Often, traumatologists are consulted about a severely injured patient who is en route to the hospital so they can be in the emergency room when the patient arrives. This way, the Hughston traumatologist can be involved in what has become known as the “Golden Hour” of trauma care. During this period, decisions have to be made rapidly with very little time for reflection. Although all orthopedists treat common injuries, the Hughston traumatologist is sought out for the definitive care of the most complex problems. Pelvic injuries are one such example. The Hughston traumatologist is also called in when healing does not proceed as planned.

Because of the need for a specialized regional center for advanced orthopedic traumatology care, the Advanced Reconstructive and Trauma Service was established at Hughston. Headed up by
Dr. Fred Flandry, who has been trained extensively in North America and Europe and is nationally recognized for his abilities, the center accepts both physician referral and self referred patients.

As the region's leading provider of healthcare, Columbus Regional Healthcare System has touched the lives of most of the children and adults in this region through its comprehensive network of services. Located in the West Georgia city of Columbus, Columbus Regional was established in 1986 as a not-for-profit health services organization, but its roots can be traced back to 1836 when the local hospital was a small wooden building on the banks of the Chattahoochee River.
