Family Medicine Residency Program Applicants

Residency Programs at The Medical Center

Our program accepts all Residents through the NRMP and the AOA resident match process. Our residency programs accept applicant materials for both matches through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) available at all U.S. Medical schools and the office of the ECFMG. Our program will review applications in an ongoing basis as they become available on the ERAS system.

Successful applicants will have had strong scores on Step 1 and Step 2 of the USMLE. We do not screen applicants by cutoff scores alone. Personal statements, life experiences and good interviewing skills are key determinants for selection.

For international medical graduates, most of our successful applicants will have had at least one year of clinical experience in the American healthcare system to be competitive. Most of our successful international medical graduates have graduated from their medical schools within the past 5 years.

To be considered for a Family Medicine Residency or Transitional Year interview, send our program your ERAS packet. Our Residency Coordinator, M.A. Dowdell ma.dowdell@crhs.net, will be in contact with you.

The interview season usually begins in October and runs into February. We realize that at times medical students have difficulty in coordinating interviews with their training schedules. Our department will provide one night’s lodging before your interview day, and will arrange this for you. We interview daily during the recruiting season and will work with your schedule to get you to Columbus.

Our typical interview experience includes:

1. Dinner the evening before with a Resident if your travel schedule permits
2. A morning tour of the hospital with a Resident
3. Interviews during the day with faculty members and the Program Director
4. Lunch with a Resident

Spouses or significant others are welcome to join you for the interview day. We have many resources to showcase Columbus housing, job opportunities, schools, church life and shopping.

As the region's leading provider of healthcare, Columbus Regional Health has touched the lives of most of the children and adults in this region through its comprehensive network of services. Located in the West Georgia city of Columbus, Columbus Regional was established in 1986 as a not-for-profit health services organization, but its roots can be traced back to 1836 when the local hospital was a small wooden building on the banks of the Chattahoochee River.
