Columbus Regional Breast Care Center Designated Center of Excellence

06.22.2011

The Columbus Regional Breast Care Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).
“Being recognized as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology is wonderful news and a great accomplishment by the dedicated physicians and staff at Columbus Regional Breast Care Center,” said Lance Duke, president and CEO of The Medical Center. “This accreditation is a reflection of our continual efforts to improve our patients’ care and safety.”
The physicians at the Columbus Regional Breast Care Center have special expertise in breast imaging. Medical Director Marseea Howard, M.D. is a board-certified radiologist and participated in a fellowship in body imaging at Duke University Medical Center. Roland Wong, M.D., who specializes in diagnostic radiology, is a board-certified radiologist and certified in reading digital mammography.
“Our certification is simply confirmation and recognition of the high quality practice that has been our standard at the Breast Care Center for years now,” said Dr. Howard. “We intend to have every breast imaging modality achieve equally high standards as they are adopted into our imaging armentarium in the future.”
Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that this facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services.
The Columbus Regional Breast Care Center, located in a spacious facility at 2200 Hamilton Road near The Medical Center campus, offers digital mammography, minimally invasive stereotactic biopsy, dexa scans for bone density studies, breast cancer education and risk evaluation.

As the region's leading provider of healthcare, Columbus Regional Health has touched the lives of most of the children and adults in this region through its comprehensive network of services. Located in the West Georgia city of Columbus, Columbus Regional was established in 1986 as a not-for-profit health services organization, but its roots can be traced back to 1836 when the local hospital was a small wooden building on the banks of the Chattahoochee River.
