Outreach

Oncology outreach seeks to increase public awareness of the importance of cancer prevention, early detection and treatment. We provide educational opportunities for the community through classes, workshops, health fairs and screening events.

Some of our newest educational innovations include use of the performing arts through skits and short plays. To arrange for a program presentation at your school, church, civic group or other organization, call (706) 660-6400.John B. Amos Cancer Center's Outreach Education Department not only provides educational programs, but also performs cancer screenings for a variety of community events sponsored by various organizations and businesses. John B. Amos Cancer Center offers screenings during the following months:

       March - Colorectal information and screening
       May - Skin cancer information and screening
       September - Prostate information and screening
       October - Breast cancer information and screening
       Each screening includes weight and body fat analysis, blood glucose and  blood pressure        screenings.

Oncology Symposium

The John B. Amos Cancer Center Oncology Symposium will be held July 17, 2009. The topic of this year's oncology symposium will be "Current Considerations in Cancer Care." Continuing education units (CEUs) will be provided.


John B. Amos Cancer Center participates in the following annual events:
 

Men and Women's' Expo - An event that provides Harvard Risk Assessments, a computerized assessment tool designed to identify an individual's risk of developing cancer, colorectal cancer screening kit, instructions in proper breast and testicular self-exam techniques, and cancer prevention and early detection literature.

American Cancer Society's Relay For Life - A fundraising event supported by Cancer Center personnel.

Mayor's Health and Fitness Walk - An event that provides cancer prevention and early detection information and screenings.
