A Neurosurgeon's Approach

Neurosurgeons are physicians trained to protect and restore function to the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and nerves.

Neurosurgeons have the most extensive medical training and offer the highest level of expertise in treating back pain through non-operative therapies, minimally invasive procedures or open surgery. They’re the only physicians qualified to treat the entire spine from the base of the skull to the tailbone, including the spinal cord.

More often than ever, neurosurgery can include minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as artificial disc replacement for the neck and back, and may be an option when non-surgical therapies are ineffective.

Whenever possible, non-surgical therapies are preferred and are used whenever possible. Techniques may include pain management and physical therapy, both of which are available through the Columbus Regional Brain and Spine Center.
